Chemical Selection Decision Making Criteria

Holistic Pest Solutions works on the principle that the more selective the control, the less harm there will be to non-target organisms in the environment, including infants, children, pets and the organisms that are an important part of a healthy home and ecosystem. We select pesticides based on the following criteria:

01.

Least Toxic

Least acutely and chronically toxic product available.

02.

Target Specific & Selective

We choose the product that works specifically on the species identified.

03.

Least Mobile Available

Chemicals that travel are more likely to have unintended consequences. This includes sprays and fumigants which we avoid for the same reason.

04.

Non-volatile

Chemicals that are volatile spread through the air, (can be breathed in) and land on surfaces that we touch and can ingest through our mouth.

05.

Non Water & Wind Dispersible

Chemicals applied by spray and “drenched” into soils disperse into storm water and can be carried by the wind potentially affecting the ecosystem.

06.

Non-residual

Chemicals that reside on surfaces continue to be active for anywhere from months to years. We prefer baits that are used to manage a problem, their location is known and they can be replaced when necessary.

07.

Biodegradable

Biodegradable with low or non-toxic breakdown pathways – this ensures there is no detrimental impact beyond the intended application.

08.

Non-active Ingredients

Non-active ingredients should be least acutely and chronically toxic product available – the non-active ingredients are also a concern to health. These are also assessed for health and environmental implications in our selection process.
